'00 v6 Hesitation Problem

Hi,
I have a 2000 4Runner v6 4x4 5-spd with 85k miles on it. I have had NO problems with it until now. Recently the truck will sometimes hesitate slightly when under low loads and medium RPM's. I took it into Toyota and they put it through the computer checkup and couldn't find anything wrong. The truck feels like it is running out of gas, but then just keeps going. The power cuts out and then comes back.

I recently had the spark plugs changed and they put in the original type. I've done other basic maintenance (reg oil changes, coolant flush, air filters, etc.). I have taken good care of my truck. Why is it doing this?

Can one of you 4Runner gurus out there please help me?

THANK YOU!!!

Question

I just talked to the service department at Toyota of Hollywood...

I called to get a quote on replacing the fuel filter and spark plug wires. The service guy (Pat) told me that Toyota does not recommend replacing the fuel filter on 4Runners... ever. He also told me that plug wires should last at least 10 years.

He told me that I should wait until the problem gets worse and then bring the vehicle in then so they can diagnose it.

Does this make sense to any of you?

Thanks

It makes sense if the only alternative is spending money. There are cheap or free alternatives you can do to see if you can solve this.

For example, did you try a fuel additive to clean the injectors? Like Chevron Techron.

You can also try cleaning your throttle body:

(Don't clean the throttle position sensor or the IAC valve)

You can check the function of the engine sensors with an ohmmeter and maybe other tools.

This sounds exactly as what my 97' is doing I'll clean the throttle body, use fuel injector cleaner, and replace the air filter and report back to this old thread.

I used a few bottles of that Techron cleaner stuff and it worked like magic.

When I brought it in for my 90k maintenance the Toyota dealer told me that I needed my injectors and throttle body cleaned, so I let them do that too.

Now I just run a bottle of Techron every 3-5k miles.
