annoying whining noise(while A/C is on)

While the A/C is on there is an intermittent whining noise coming from the motor. Not the belt slipping type of noise but like a high pitched noise tha lasts for about 10 seconds and then stops for another 10 seconds or so. Any Ideas? Thanks

i would say to differ. I would bet it is the belt slipping when the clutch engages on the air compressor. Look at the compressor when it kick in and out.

Re: annoying whining noise(while A/C is on)

I tried, But the strange thing is that it only does it while the van is in motion, particullarly during acceleration. You could be right though. would a slipping belt do that at idle too?

More than likely it's the belt same thing happened on my 98 Gr Caravan, it started out slowly & then all the time, but after tightening the belt I mean really tighten the belt it stopped.

urgent

Please do not overtighten any fan belt, it's guaranteed to ruin bearings and seals and compressor and is very hard on engine also. If you need an asprin don't take the whole bottle!!!!
