Derby/Nottingham area? Anyone?

I just wondered if there was anyone from the derby or nottingham area (UK)? And if there are any decent model shops, as i will be in the area for the next couple of weeks.
I know about Gee Dee, as i used to go there alot when i was wee but are there any other shops. Also do any of them sell upgrade parts?

Thanks

Re: Derby/Nottingham area? Anyone?

Don't really know any specialist shops in the UK. We used to have Marshal Auto Supplies and Scale Autoparts who did stuff mail order but they seem to have vanished over the years. The are still people like MRM and Scale Autosport but they are pretyy much race car exclusive.

I use the Internet and order from the States, and I've had good success. I tend to e-mail first to make sure they are OK with foreign orders, but everyone I've delt with over there has been very helpful.

Gee Dee is still worth a visit, they're good for supplies and kits but still hopeless for aftermarket stuff. I think they're intending to sell stuff over the internet at http://www.geedee-modelshop.com/ but the site has been 'under construction' for quite a while now.

Yeah i noticed that last night. They have done some work on the site since i last saw it but still just an index page. I would rather buy online from them than from another country as i have been there at least, so i hope they get things under way soon. I mainly want some CF decals, compound and polish. Can't get that stuf where i am now.

Compound IS polish Seriously though I get stuff like that mail order. Its light and cheap so no customs charges and delivery is reasonable. Mediamixhobby sell SMS carbon fibre and PE sets and only charge about $1.50 for delivery(unlike buying direct from SMS where they want to charge you $8 for delivering carbon decals or PE sets). Its also pretty fast aswell, usually under a week! The range of products is vast and if you buy in bulk the savings can be big.

I live in Leicester (and went to Uni in Nottingham) and I only know a few good model shops(Dominos in Leicester), which I use to buy Tamiya paints and modelling supplies. Kits and aftermarket stuff I get from HLJ, Mediamix or Ebay.

Cheers

Re: Derby/Nottingham area? Anyone?

No way! I always thought it was quite good for that stuff in England. I suppose it is mostly trains though in hobby shops.

Thanks for replies
