Mouse in my heating system

My troubling heating system problem has been solved. The symptem was a loud vibrating roar when I switched the fan on and grew louder as I went to higher speeds. A mouse had worked it's way back to the fan box and set up house keeping. It was in the wrong place at wrong time when my wife turned the fan on. Well, there was bloody mouse all over in there. After it was cleaned out, all is well.

Re: Mouse in my heating system

Well, good to hear that you've finally got it all worked out. I actually think this may be a possibility with our blower as well, our car has been around quite a bit of "mousey" places. I actually pulled a dead one out by it's tail that had gotten stuck in the hole by the coolant tank filler.

I think curious animals take almost all the fun out of car ownership. You wouldn't believe how many animals have died trying to venture in the engine bay of our cars...lol

Re: Mouse in my heating system

It was my cat and it lived with no ill effects. Hid behind the washer/dryer for a day or two.

Re: Mouse in my heating system

lol...I feel bad for the cat. And don't get me started on the suicidal bugs on the highway...all I have to say about that is every time I wash the car, and spend hours cleaning the bug-beard off the front, take it out for an hour or less, and it's back on again!!! I'm fighting the losing battle.

HOw in the world to I clean it out? I paid $60 to have a nest removed in November and now the blower is making the same noise. Can I clean this out myself?

Re: Mouse in my heating system

You can clean this out yourself, but you'll have to remove the majority of the lower half of the dashboard on the passenger side.

I had a mouse build a nest in-between the top of the engine and the exaust manifold. I Went around a few days wondering why does my car smell like burnt food. So, I desided to looked under the hood and see if I could figure out why it smells like that. When I opened the hood I found out why. That mouse had carried a piece of string, some of the covering from the coling fan harness and "oh yeah" the food that I was smelling was dog food that it carried under the manifold.
And for the mouse, A few days after that I saw a little pile of fur on the garrage floor. Hmm, I guess the dogs ate it.

Re: Mouse in my heating system

marmalade,

This should be covered by your insurance under the comprehensive portion of your policy. It will, of course, be less the deductible, so you should get a few quotes for having it done and then decide if it's worth it to you to contact your insurance carier or just do it yourself. You might need to take a few pictures of the damage. This is speaking from personal experience. When my 94 Camry was a month old some unknown creature got under the hood and ate the hood pad, the tubing to the windshield squirters, the large vacuum line that went to the brake booster, scratched the underside of the hood and ate the wiring to both O2 sensors. It was about $550 parts and labor at the dealer, which was covered less my $100 deductible. I never did find out what creature it was that did this dastardly deed. It actually gave my wife and I a few laughs.

Mike
