broke wires...help

OK, so anyone know what a red, black, and yellow wire that run up the A-pillar are for? I think I snapped em, without even realizing while feeding the vacuum tube up through the dash with a wire coat hanger. They snapped near the roof. But I'm not 100% sure they were connected to anything to begin with. The sunroof still works, that was my main concern, I'll play with some more buttons and see if I can locate anything broken. Thanks, Geoff

There is a 2nd bundle of wires that remains intact, they were clipped to the metal behind the a-pillar much better. The other wire bundle in question wasn't mounted or clipped at all.

Re: broke wires...help

My 2nd F%$k up:
cut the hose coming off the back of the plenum after routing all wires and hoses...Great, now I realize that the width of the hose is too big. The inner diameter is fine, but the outer diameter is too big not fit into my female connection on the T-junction. Nobody around here had male T-junctions smaller than 1/4", so I had to get a female one, where you insert the tube and then tighten a bolt and it seals around the tube. Well it worked fine for the tube I ran, but the stupid stock vacuum hose is too large, and I was too stupid to realize prior to incapacitating my car...so I'm brainstorming right now...and probably having a few beers to facilitate the thought processes. If you have any suggestions, please just toss them out...I want this thing to be in and working already.

Re: broke wires...help

Ok, so drinking a beer apparently helped. I went to pepboys, got more hose, hose clamps, and I found different size plastic T junctions. So at this point, here is what I have running:

plastic T-juntion with 3 Male 3/16" ends
2 of those ends, the stock vacuum hose is on, the hose being on the outside of the T-junction

1 end, I have running to my boost gauge, this one is so narrow of a tube, that it actually fits inside the 3rd end of the T-junction, so that the tube is inside the plastic connection, rather than on the outside like the other 2. This 3rd connection isn't very tight either, I was afraid it would get blown off, but it didn't, but it slides out quite easily.

So with this setup, I took it out, and couldn't get it to boost past 6 or 7psi...that's wastegate pressure right...so I have a boost leak or something right?

Be thankfull that you even have boost! There are a fair number of us that would jump for joy at 6 psi!

Re: broke wires...help

Yeah, well you wouldn't be happy if your SL was only running on 3 cylinders.

OK, so sitting in the driveway I put the car in first and kept the clutch and brake down and reved to 4k. Stock boost gauge says 14psi, new one says zero. Took it out on the road, I redlined first and 2nd and it never went above 6 or 7psi...wastegate pressure. So I'm thinking boost leak...time for a pressure tester. Which I will be getting tonight or tomorrow...but before I do, is there anything that strikes any of you in particular? Running wastegate pressure, could that isolate the leak to a few places or something, or is that normal for any boost leak? As much help would be great. Also, still wondering what the hell those wires were. They ran up the A-pillar and into the headliner.

Also the BOV is honking more and more, so I know it's leaking at WOT, would that account for this entire loss of boost?

do the vacuum hose reduction mod first

if you have an mbc, just hook the nipple on the back of the y-pipe up to the mbc, then run a hose out of the mbc into a vacuum t, then run them to your wastegates. Then, as for the throttle body, i dont think you need the outter two on the throttle body, so cap them off, and then use the middle one to whatever it is hooked up to, then get rid of those solenoids in your car

Re: broke wires...help

OK, I'm ordering an aftermarket BOV tomorrow, and will see if that solves the problem, if not then vac reduction kit it is...

Also, I managed to get it to spike to 10psi at 5k in 3rd, but it definantly didn't even hold it for more than a fraction of a second...thanx for the replies, keep them coming.

Re: broke wires...help

OK, so I found a slight problem today which I fixed, the hose running to the gauge was getting pinched, so now I have been hitting and kinda holding 12psi. It hits 12, goes down to 10 and be 5 or 6k, it is dropping down to as low as 5. (Should it be holding 10psi to redline or be dropping off so abruptly after 5k?)

Also on this run I didn't hear the BOV honking like it had been earlier. I'm going to test it out with a few more pulls on the way to work where I have room to open it up. If all goes well, the MBC goes in tonight. If it doesn't, a pressure tester and BOV are getting ordered.
