Arrow Transmission...

Why is it when one thing goes bad suddenly everything else goes bad? Anyway, last week my speedometer and odometer suddenly quit working and my transmission suddenly quit shifting into last gear (it's a automatic) the car runs fine other than not going into last gear and not knowing how fast or far I'm going. My car is a '98 Dodge Neon SOHC 2.0 Liter engine. I was looking at it today on top and underneath the car and I can't find anything loose or damaged or anything and it has plenty of trans fluid and it doesn't look burnt or anything. Anybody know what would cause them (speedometer and odometer) to stop working and the transmission not go into last gear?

Thanks
Dave

Re: Transmission...

This is a fairly common problem. I have a 99 that did the same thing. I noticed it first after kicking it down into passing gear. then it would not shift out of 2nd any more. The problem was the passing gear lever (that the cable from the throttle connect to) had rusted and got caught on the shifter selector lever. It took about 2 hours to get to the area and thoroughly clean the two peices. After this the trans has performed great.

Re: Transmission...

transmission speed sensor can cause this problem the car doesnt know how fast the car is going so it wont shift into overdrive its called a failsafe mode. Probably your check engine light came on also if it wasn't on already pull the code and go from there.
