Does my hx realy have vtec or what?

Does my hx realy have vtec or what? Cause on many sites ive read that HX has Vtec-E which is that kinda Vtec EX has. I think i hear something past 5500 rpm but then it might just my emotions playing with me check this site out which says that ex and hx have Vtec-E, except HX is lean burn Vtec-E.

Yes your HX does have VTEC but it is economy and is used for fuel purposes to get better gas mileage and doesnt have the same VTEC as the EX. The VX HB in 92-95 also had VTEC-E but the VX was replaced with the HX in 96+. The HP rating on a HX is 115HP i believe compared to the EX which has 127.

heh, the VX. i am a proud owner of a blown VX. man that car was a dog. I was going to replace the motor, but i cannot locate them anywhere, so i'm goin h22a or crvtec (leaning more toward crvtec) i'm sure your hx runs a bit better than the vx, i think it had like 95hp or something. ugh, i shudder when i think of that motor

Some of what you said is right. Your HX has VTEC, but like you said it's Hondas "economy" version of it's VTEC system, known as VTEC-E and was developed primarily for good fuel consumption. And like someone already said, you've got about 115hp there.
So how does it work, well up to 2,500/3000rpm your engine works on 12 of it's 16 valves and after that point it switches to "normal" operation using all of it's 16 valves hence giving you great fuel economy while you're in it's "economy mode". HTH, G

Take a look at this link for more info!, taken from The FAQ!

only difference

The only difference from normal VTEC and VTEC-E is that VTEC has variable valve timing on the intake only and VTEC-E has variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust making for a more fuel effiecent engine with a little more power than a DX. I check on this because I orginally wanted to get a car with a claim of 45MPG. I dont know if this is its only factor that gives it better gas milage and a marginal HP improvement. I decide to stick with my daily driver 1989 Accord LXi which I just spent $2000 to put a new engine into it and later on get a 92 Civic CX or VX and drop a H22A engine into it so i can have a litte RICER to F around with.

Hope this helps
Mike

Ya i know its possible and there are places that do it, but he says "drop" a h22a, he has these options, to lengthen the front, or take out a/c and powersteering to do it. Both would cost big $$, wouldn't be worth it..

How much juice did ur buddy use to run in the 12's. I heard of stock H22A/92Civic Hybrids running in the high 12's but I have not seen proof of that. But I have seen proof of 13's with the Hybrid combo.

Thanks
Mike
