Unhappy Lt1 Driveshaft

I have a guy that can build custom driveshafts from chromoly steel. i was wondering if anyone has converted from a 2 piece driveshaft in an lt1 to a 1 piece. im trying to figure out if it makes the car ride bad or not. i know it will free up some horsepower considering it will be 20 lbs lighter than the stock driveshaft.

thanks fellazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Re: Lt1 Driveshaft

first, when the heck did the LT1 have a two piece driveshaft? thought only the sixers came with that.

second, im currently looking into this idea. assuming that the supposed LT1 two-piece has the same geometry as the sixers: you cannot just take a one piece out of an LT1 and put it in place of the two piece, the lengths are different. however, the only part of the shaft that has a different length is the slide yoke(heard it called that) that slides into the back of the transmission. my theory is: get a one piece shaft, and then just switch out the slide yoke with the one off of the two piece shaft...

Re: Lt1 Driveshaft

the V 6 cars had a 2 piece driveshaft. even with the different lengths, several V6 owners have swapped in 1 piece shafts with no problems and no modifications. I sole a 1LE driveshaft to a guy with a V6 a couple months ago.

Re: Lt1 Driveshaft

yeah im pretty sure that the LT1 never came with a two-piece. it would have torn that two-piece all to hell. maybe the guy has a car with an engine swap.

on a more "me" related topic: the v-8 shafts fit right into the sixer cars? i figured that they would cause theres no difference between the drivetrains, but im always skeptical of these things cause they never work out for me...

Re: Lt1 Driveshaft

As far as I know any driveshaft from 84-02 is interchangable as long as it doesnt have an odd transmission in it.

yea, i believe 3rd and 4th gen cars driveshaft's are completely interchangable, the one on the '97 i took apart was the same length as my '92
