Exclamation Please Help me Get This Right! READ!!

Ok...There was this recent post about the KA and SR engines. And one guy STEREOTYPED the 2 engines into 2 different categories. DRIFTING(SR) and DRAG (KA). Now...where i'm confused is that.... if you have like 10 g's to spend on a engine...whether in getting a SR or KA can't you make the KA work like the sr witout violating the emmisions in CA

KA24DE-89mm bore, 96mm stroke
SR20DET-86mm bore, 86mm stroke

Can't you spend some $$$ on the KA to make it match the high rev drifting potential of the SR. And i know the KA has torque and can't burn up tires faster but don't the SR has the same amount of torque? ALso what is meant by perfectly squared and non squared engine. And how much would it cost to make the KA's Performance to match the Sr's in the drifting category? without sacrificing much on the drag

Please help me on answering theses questions...Because i'm stuck in which road to take to upgrade the engine because my engine is like crackling when it cools and i dont know what the problem is.. i think over heating.....so i need to either get a SR or start replace parts on to the KA.

Re: Ok..Lets get this rite here!!!!!

Ever hear of turbo bolt ons, kid? They have one for the KA... However, your stock KA engine has more than enough power for a drift setup. Sure... it's not as 'cool' as the SR20. KA for drag only? There are many people drifting KA powered cars!! SR for drift only? Whomever is giving you info is a complete 'tard! There are many SR powered cars ripping up the 1/4 mile!!

I say if you have the money: get an SR20DET or if you wanna be different, then a KA24DET conversion. If money is limited... fix your engine and stay stock!!! There is nothing wrong with drifting a KA powered 240... I did it for awhile myself! Also think about everyone getting rid of their KA motors! Parts... whole motors are a dime a dozen (cheap!)!!!

Man, swap in a chevy 350 and be done with all this bulls***, you'll have the power to kill anything.

No more "it's better for drift, no, it's better for drag", slap on a small block and you can kill them both in both categories once and for all.

Re: Ok..Lets get this rite here!!!!!

either way, going with a sr20 or kat will fail emissions. You are just giong to have to slip the guy a lot of bens to pass. Or always take off the turbo everytime you have to smog it for the kat

Re: Ok..Lets get this rite here!!!!!

SHO411: I'm not sure which planet you come from... but a Chevy 350 is not the engine that beats all engines where I come from. Kill anything? Be serious... this topic is limited to KA's and SR's BTW...

nomore240sx: I have known many people that have had there SR20 powered 240's pass emmissions with flying colors (not so sure if the KA24DET would pass though...)! And before you say it... there was no bribing done in any case!

Nope. If there were, not as many people wouldn't go through the hassle with the SR. Greddy is still pending CARB approval.

If you can find one, post a link There are kits out there that can pass the sniff test, but visual will still get you in California.

Yeah Visual inspection is a bummer, my friend failed once (After passing the emissions test) because the guy noticed his chromed aftermarket header -_-

SR and KAT is an Auto fail no matter what, So either bribe your way out, or get a KAT, it's gotta be easyer to remove the turbo than swap the SR for a KA and then go back to SR =(((

Re: Ok..Lets get this rite here!!!!!

See...You guys....first of all....i'm not as stupid as you think....so don't call me KID. The info i got was from another thread...and some guy on there said it. i was just making sure.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=258743

But the thing is...i live in CALIFORNIA (VISUAL Inspection) and if KAT and SR won't pass, what will be the best (parts available) Including the RB25. I might just take a risk because i might know someone that will pass smog for me around my area. But if not i might just sell the 240 and buy another car that wouldn't go through this hassle.....Turbo'd Supra??? STI???

Re: Ok..Lets get this rite here!!!!!

If an engine is an air pump and the objective is to get more air (and fuel) into the engine to make power, then the KA will consume 400cc more air thus making more power. Theres no way in hell I would pay to swap an engine in and lose displacement. Plus the added bonus of available parts or engines if something breaks. SRs are fast, but you don't really see too many 10sec SRs. Read the FAQ. It explains this pretty well.
