Hey fellow Canadians....

I'm curious, I wasa told that the Canadian two dollar bill (is there such a thing) has the American Flag over the Parliament Building instead of the Canadian flag. Is this true? If it is can someone tell me why?

There was at one point a Canadian two dollar bill, but it has been discontinued for some time now. We now use two dollar coins, or "toonies". I have an old two dollar bill saved and I just checked it, there is no sign of an American flag, and over the buildings is a Canadian one.

Thanks, now I'll search for a pic of one on the net and show my friend and win that bet.

There's an American Robin, but that's about it. I'm not sure about the bills before the 1986 redesign, but I doubt that there was an American flag. Sorry folks, it's a lie. :P

Why can't you folks just as a know- it-all Canuk like me??

The issue is the Canadian bill in question has an historical picture of Parliament Hill, (The central block of federal government buildings in Ottawa). It displays a tiny flag flying over one building. This flag is the Red Ensign, our national flag up until 1965, (at which point our current beer can label was placed in effect.)
The Red Ensign has a Union Jack in the corner (the British flag)

In the miniscule picture on the bill, the Union Jack pattern in the upper left corner looks a bit like the stars in the American flag)

When they were released in 1996 they wern't connected very well. Sometimes the gold centre would pop out of the silver ring. I knew a guy who broke a bunch of them, and took the parts to seperate banks where they replaced the coins. By taking the centres to one bank and the rings to another, you could double your money.
