kit/paint questions

ill just put all my questions in one thread this time

1. what do u do to keep paint off ur hands and if u do get it on ur hands how do u get it off? i got a whole bunch of red paint on my hands yesterday and i couldnt get it off.

2. do u think the fast and the furious kits are any good? i wanna get the supra, eclipse, and civic.

3. is testors brush cleaner bad for ur hands/skin? cuz i got it all over my hands while i was cleaning my brush.

4. is there any other brand of paint besides tamiya that makes clear red and orange?

Re: kit/paint questions

1. Go to a target or something and pick up a box of like 100 doctors latex gloves. They are disposable and keep you clean. I occasianally get a little overspray on my arm(past the glove). It comes off in water but it sounds like the paint you got on is pretty thick.

2.Havent built them

3. From my experience it just smells. Never had any hand irritation or anything of the sort.

Re: kit/paint questions

i wear doctors gloves when i paint

i have built a fast and furious eclipse, not the best kit out there, its decent tho, needs a lot of work to make things fit properly

brush cleaner? i assume its just varosal or tupintine, i use them to clean my hands if i get paint on them lol so i dont think its harmfull, just wash your hands afterwords

Re: kit/paint questions

#4 - I think Humbrol makes a few clear colors (Red, Orange and Green for sure). They are enamels though...

I dunno about the other stuff but i use only Humbrol paints for brushing and Tamita only for spraying bodies.

Humbrol have just about every colour imaginable.

Re: kit/paint questions

1. I use the paint cleanner then soap.

2. Compared to tamiya it's a shame, but for 9$, it's fine

3. No it's not.. read on the bottle, just clean

4. Humbrol

Re: kit/paint questions

4. Not all hobby shops carry all things. Mine does not carry Humbrol at all, and does not carry Tamiya sprays. For my brush paints I just use Tamiya and Testors/Model Masters bottles, because my LHS carries those and between them I'm golden.

1. To get paint of your hands, use shop hand cleaners like Gojo. They come in tubs or pumps, and you can find them at autoparts stores.

2. Buy what you want, you can makes something good even if the kit sucks.

3. Don't do that.

Re: kit/paint questions

Some thinning/cleaning solutions are so strong they will eat through latex gloves as well as burn your skin away. But model stuff isnt near as chemically hot, so I'd say wash your hands afterwards and you'd be fine. The worst that happens is you get a minor irritation and some dry skin.
