Air intake whistle on '99 5.9L 1500
I wonder if this is a "normal" issue, but can't find any info by searching. My 1500 has always had an idle and off-idle whistle, seemingly from the air intake system. It whistles at closed throttle, then changes pitch and gets louder as you step on the gas lightly. As the throttle opens more the whistle goes away. At steady throttle on the highway it is gone, and comes back when you back off the throttle. It is definitely and obviously related to being at very light throttle openings.
Truck is stock, and it has done this since I bought it a month ago. 55k miles. It's not particularly annoying to me (a bit to my girlfriend), but I just wonder if it indicates a problem I should fix. |

This is a very bad problem indeed, all you need to do is replace your girlfriend. It shouldn't cost you anything either.
Seriously, maybe the plastic cover on top of the throttle body has worked it's way loose or something, and there is a slight gap someplace around where it draws air, and it's causing the whistle. You wouldn't think this would be very hard to locate. What I would do is remove the plastic intake, and then put it all back the way it's supposed to be, and see if that helped...

I will dig into it if it is something that is not considered normal. I was checking first before ripping things apart only to have someone say "they all do that" after I find nothing wrong. I have about a week left on the warranty, so I guess I should get to it in case it's something expensive... |

Absolutely, will do, but I want to go in with ammo so they can't say it's just normal.
It's a state-mandated, very limited short-term warranty which covers "powertrain" basically. Not even sure if this would be covered, I'll have to go read the fine print. |
