Check Engine Light Stays On.

My 1996 Mustang has been acting up lately.

The "check engine" light has been remaining lit. I took it to the shop and they put it on the scope and concluded that nothing is wrong with the engine. They say that the problem is with the fuel cap and pressure in the tank.

I was just wondering if this has happened to others and what they did to fix it.

Thanks

Wizard

Re: Check Engine Light Stays On.

Sounds like vapor lock. Try a new gas cap, reset the computer, and see what happens.

Same trouble I've been having with my 96 GT...Mine started in February, code 1445 that indicated a bad Evaporative Emissions Control System Control Valve...Replaced the valve (Canister Purge Valve) and it worked fine from Feb to May. Light came back on again...Same Code, replaced the valve again (under warranty from OReilly Auto Parts) Worked fine for about a week, light came on again...Went to get the car inspected, Inspection station printed out what they called a "recall" on the car something to do with the computer needing to be re-programmed. Dealer said it was not a "recall" but a Technical Service Bulletin and would cost in the neighborhood of $150.00 to have the re-program done....Yesterday, after driving home on my 40 mile commute, I stopped to get smokes, went back out and the car refused to start....Acted just like it was vapor locked...I did not think modern EFI cars could vapor lock. Car finally started again after about an hour of sitting there.. The car acted just like nothing had ever happened....Let me know if you get any fix for this....PLEASE!!!

Re: Check Engine Light Stays On.

I agree with HiFlow. I think its the gas cap. But it could be a multitude of things I guess.
