47,000 miles on this 2001 Malibu LS, had trouble stopping, felt like I had the gas pedal & brake on. After managing to stop, let off brake & it accelerated by itself gradually to 55 & I had to hit brake to slow down. I put it in neutral & revved the engine thinking maybe something was stuck. No help. Turned on & off the cruise, again no impact. I floored it going uphill & it finally stopped accelerating. The RPM's seemed to be jumping by itself up to 2,000, stuck mostly at 1,500.
Put on analyzer & the only code it came up with was V1040, Loss of EBCM/EBTCM . Electronic brake control module. I was told that may not be the real problem, but just because I had the braking issue while the car was accelerating. Any ideas? |

Re: 2001 Chevy Malibu uncontrolled acceleration
Throttle position sensor faulty. MAF sensor? Did the dealer read the code? See if there are any Tech Service Bullitans on this. Under warranty?

Re: 2001 Chevy Malibu uncontrolled acceleration
I haven't checked service bulletins, & it is not under warranty. Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: 2001 Chevy Malibu uncontrolled acceleration
I just wanted to post that it turned out to be the cable to the accelerator needed lubrication. I replaced several sensors & it still did it. Then found that the cable was sticking. Lubed it & ordered a new one just in case. Working fine now. Thanks for the ideas
