Idle speed has increased!

Hi - I am new to this forum and need some help. My 2000 Silverado 5.3L EFI Vortec has trouble starting and the idle speed has increased from 600 RPMS to 1200 RPMs when hot. The truck has to to crank 2 or 3 times to get it to start. Fuel pressure regulator was checked is not the problem. May not be related but now the idle speed has jumped up after driving for about 20 minutes. When the idle speed is high the shifting is hard. (Automatic transmission). Any ideas where to start?

Re: Idle speed has increased!

Is you SES Light coming on? If so I would look into getting your truck on a diagnostic machine. How is your milage? Look around your engine compartment for any cracked or broken vacuum lines. Especially around your intake/exhuast manifolds. What was the pressure on your fuel system?

Re: Idle speed has increased!

Check for leaks in the air intake tube, maybe a crack or a lose clamp. An air leak after the MAF sensor can cause this, since the engine is getting more air then it 'thinks' it is.

Re: Idle speed has increased!

The SES is not coming on - the truck has just turned over 100K miles. 2000 Silverado. Could a failing fuel pump cause idle problems?
