First, grab a center punch and try to dig into it and tap it loose with a hammer by angling the punch to the right. This might work, might not but it's worth a try before you go get the drill. The worst case scenario that I've seen (friend truck), involved cutting the pin out with a sawzall, which wasn't easy considering they are hardened, and just buying a new pin.

Re: ring &pinon

um. try an easy out, or worse case senario drill it out. dont think punching it out is the best idea. and dont know how you would use a sawzall, unless im just thinking of the wrong thing.

you cant fit a drill in there, i've tried. the bolt hole is almost flush with the case. you might be able to fit a right angle drill with a very short drill bit in there, but i dont know.

when this happened to me, i used a punch and drove the pinion shaft out of the carrier, and sheared off the bolt in the procees. then pulled the carrier out so i could drill the bolt out

Snap-on or Matco(can't remember right now) make a kit that centers a long lefthand drill bit then easy out it. Its quite slick. Usually, the drill bit gets it alone. I don't have the part # right now, its at the shop.

Or, if you work the spider shaft back and forth(with much finess) you can shear the bolt off. Or break the carrier
