Lets put it this way, a stock Camaro v-6 is quick, and there are mods avaiable, I own a 2000 camaro v-6 and without mods i can still light up the tires and get going pretty fast...

Re: camero newbe question

The 3800 V6 in the 2000 Camaro is quoted at 200hp by www.cars.com . That is a very potent V6, and as Shinigami2x4 has already said, it gets up and goes very well. As far as mods, if you want to put a turbo on there check out the web a bit. They are VERY expensive. I did a search at ask jeeves and after looking around a little, it looks like it will take you about $3500.00 to turbo charge a typical import, to do a V6 may even be more, but could be less. If I were you, I'd look around a lot before deciding what to do. There always headers, cam, intake, exhaust, heads, etc. You could do just about all of that for the price of a turbo set up.

the market for the series II 3800 is bad. if you want to go fast Yea their will be stuff out there and it would help but think about it. Once you pay to have all the crap on the v-6, you could of bought a Z and be going faster. My advise to you is to just save a little longer and get a z28. With the z you get more than just the v-8. You get the better suspension and brakes and what not. They are well worth the investment. To give you an example, look at the majority of third gen six bangers. They are run like hell and most are about 2 seconds from blowing up. Now look at most z28 thrd gens. They tend to always be in better shape and worth more than the base v-6 counterparts. Just remember, even though there are exceptions to the rules, you get what you pay for.

Re: camero newbe question

yea, imports w/ 6s or 4s were designed w/ those engines in mind... the Camaro was desinged w/ a 350 V8 in mind, then they just dropped a budget engine in there for a base model. The 3.8 Camaro is not light enough for that engine.

Re: camero newbe question

Anyways.. I wouldnt bother with turbochargers right now..The engine would never hold up to one anyway.. If you've got some extra cash, you can squeeze quite a bit of extra power out of these engines.. But you gotta open em' up.. cams, port and polish, pistons.. Get a decent air intake, and exhaust, upgrade the ignition system..etc if you do a search, there are quite a few 3.8 performance sites listed here..

You wont be dissapointed buying a camaro!
