99 cherokee sport fuel gauge and pwr windows

My sons first vehicle. He's learning alot. He has two problems left and then he will be done!! Anyway, the fuel gauge is malfunctioning. The gauge will show the actual amount of fuel in tank when started -- most of the time. Then sometimes when started the gauge reads empty with the low fuel light on. Problem #2 - The pwr windows can only be operated from the driver side panel. All others (passengers and back seat switches) do not work. The lock button is not in the lock position.
I have read about a fuel gauge problem in the Jeeps but this seems different. Could the problems be related? Thanks.. TSully980

Re: 99 cherokee sport fuel gauge and pwr windows

I don't really have any answers for you but can tell you that I have the same problems as well. Fuel gauge does the exact same thing, I sometimes restart the engine and its ok for awhile. As for the window if you read there is some other talk on this site about connections getting rusty. I haven't got mine apart yet. I think its at the window lock connection or something.

To fix the power window switches:

Remove the door panel it just pops off around the sides and bottom and then lift up.

You next need to unhook the door latch, just turn the plastic retaining collar.

Then unhook the window switch wiring connector.

You will have to pop off each individual window switch button to open the control box and take some screws out of the back.

The window lock control switch needs to be cleaned with electrical contact cleaner and the apply some dielectric grease to prevent future problems.
