Re: MR2 help

fmic = Front Mount Intercooler.

And yea, I'm pretty sure itd be far fetched, it's a long way from the turbo to the I.C. (inter-cooler)

Usually they just have scoops in the back, and sometimes, I think they have an I.C. on top of the engine, not sure though.

Hope that helps!

Re: MR2 help

yeah, please don't do that!

Re: MR2 help

Ive got a mag with an MR2, and the guy has mounted some kind of cooling device in the front of his car, and run the pipes under the car, but i didnt really look into the article. So i doubt it was an intercooler. I can take scans if anyone is desperate to see it.

Re: MR2 help

I remember seeing an extreme MR2 with a front mounted intercooler and trunk mounted radiator.

On MR2's and Fieros people usually mount the intercooler 1)In the fender behind the door ahead of the rear wheels, 2) On top of the engine or rear decklid, or 3)On top with a scoop going down to it.

FMIC has been done, but most will tell you the small gains aren't worth the costs.

You could ask the owners themselves what they do, they're nice guys and usually willing to answer any questions

Re: MR2 help

i think we're in danger of losing the plot here! Remember people it doesnt matter about the cost and small power gains because ITS A MODEL CAR!!! You should be asking, can it be done? Yes, well then does it look good with the other stuff your doing to the kit?

I think the nsx style roof scoops look mint thou

I believe the most common place for an "big" intercooler is in the trunk. A radiator in the trunk probably won't get enough air flow, and an intercooler in the front might create monster lag. Most people also mount spal fans right under the engine hood vents (it gets REALLY hot in there!).

Those roof scoops are fairly useless. They disrupt the car's air flow design b/c it causes air to go in the top and out the bottom, which might cause it to become (theoretically) unstable. IMO, they are really only for show.

I have plans to try mod the 3SGTE from the GT4, but it will require some custom plumbing for the intercooler.

BTW, the "1997" MR2 kit has an incorrect front lip and spoiler. Fujimi never changed the front lip from the original release. And those bastards pictured the 98 spoiler on my kit, but included the 93-96 spoiler.

clem..
