Question Which Cold Air Intake?

I was thinking of getting a cold air intake for my 1999 nissan maxima, I just wasn't sure which one to get. I looked at the weapon R's but I'm undecided on the weapon r dragon or the weapon r hyper. the weapon r hyper can have a short ram intake adapted to it later on, but I couldn't find any performance stats on it. Can anyone help? Is this really a good product?
Thanks,
T.R.

Re: Which Cold Air Intake?

i have a weapon-r Dragon warm air intake, it also has the option of a ram air/coldair adapter. this is my 3rd WR intake. i had one on my '96 nissan 200sx, one on my 95 maxima, and another on my 02. i love 'em.

Check you Private messages. i just sent you a link to a dyno comparing a few of the most popular intakes to the WR. keep in mind that they tested the Warm air version of the Weapon-r and it did as well as almost all of the Cold Air intakes. i highly recommend it.

can you please post the link of the dyno sheets on the forum...I'm sure myself and others on this forum would love to see these. I've always heard that these weapon-r products are pure sh!t. One guy even ate the $100 he spent just to set that product on fire. Oh well, if you swear by it, I guess I can believe you, but please submit the proof for the rest of us. Thanks man.

Re: Which Cold Air Intake?

I just thought of a new question to ask...I noticed in the gallery in the engine shots that you have a lot of "stuff" hooked up to the piping of the intake. Is that included in the package?

Re: Which Cold Air Intake?

it came with all the reducer couplings, the silicon vacuum hose, some brackets to support the intake so it doesn't sag and an adapter for the mass airflow sensor so you can fit the filter on the end. the only thing you need is a drill or dremel to make 4 holes in the adapter to screw it to the mafs. you don't need to drill into the mafs though, which is good. it's pretty simple. it can be installed in an hour and all that stuff's included.

hmmm, Brian Catts (the owner/operator of Cattman) is usually pretty good.

Cattman's and Place Racing's are the only "true" CAIs out there. Weapon R, Ingen, etc. all have the intake down behind the radiator, so the cold air has to pass through the radiator before it gets to your intake, which can raise the temp by a few degrees. Cattman/PR's CAIs are installed in the fenderwell. you actually need to drill a 3.25 inch hole in the fenderwell wall to allow the intake to pass through. that's what makes it a true CAI.

I vote for PR CAI. Studman from the org has personally tested various different "true" CAIs, short ram WAIs, and other CAI's and has had them all dynoed on his car. the PR CAI showed the best gains out of all of them.
