front seat passenger door unlockable

The automatic door locks no longer work and the front door is now permanently locked. Mechanic is saying that the automatic lock problem is computer related and will cost a couple of hundred dollars. Also claims the front door will have to be broken to get it open and then fixed. Should I take it to a Ford dealer or let this guy go ahead?

Re: front seat passenger door unlockable

I would say take it to a ford dealer, I would imagine they have encountered this problem before and would know how to fix it without being too costly.

If it is computer related, what you can try doing is unhooking your battery and then hooking it back up to let the computer reset its settings.

Definitely take it to your Dealership. This guy may or may not be right, but if he's right, it's better to have a Ford trained mechanic fixing it than not.

I'm having the same problem with my 2000 Focus.

Passenger door cannot be unlocked, neither by automatic or manual.

Has this happened to somebody else?

I was told it would cost about 1000bucks (including labor) to get it repaired.

And yes, Ford, in their wisdom, designed the doors so you could not get the inside panel off without having the door open. So the panel will have to be cut open.

If this is not such a uncommon problem, why doesn't Ford pay for their mistake?

I already had to replace the ignition, due to it being locked up. I was told that is a very common problem.
