Sub Ruins Rear Tires?

I added 12" subs to my 2000 max. I have factory 17" with about 60k miles but very reasonable tire tread. But my rear tires steadily lose air since the addition. I know the sub can't weigh as much as the engine and its not a problem in the front. Has anyone had to constantly refill the air pressure to compensate their heavy rears? Z rated tires have steel belted in them to keep shape, is this the fix?

Please tell me what you find is the problem when it is found. I was thinking of adding 2 12's to my stock Bose system. Oh forgot...... Is yours the Bose system aswell?

you probably have a pinhole in your tire. i'd be willing to bet the 2 are unrelated cuz i'm using the same 2 12" Cerwin Vegas that i had in my other maxima and a 200sx SE-R with no probs with the rear tires in any of the vehicles.

yeah I had 2 10's then to 12's in my 2000 max and I did not have that prob it might be a pin hole

Well, it seems not to happen to everyone. Let me look into the pinholes. I started with my Bose deck but it had not sub out feature. Once i changed it (SONY Xplod) i notecd an impressive difference in the bose door speakers. Wattage maybe, built-in EQ's? Note, I have ALOT of Bass, looking back, I would have gotten 2 10"s or a tube. They would be lighter, push just enough, & give me back my trunk space.

im with BP2K2Max on this one. have those tires checked. You can have a slow leak due to a nail lodged in the tire. I had a tire that would go down to about 15 lbs every week and a half. Finally got off my lazy tail and had them take a look.

Tire had nails in it, took the tire off rim and it was crazy, had 3 or 4 nails stuck in there.

Well, ive rotated the tires and u know what, same tires leaking again. Hadem checked tho by Pep Boys, said no leaks. Looks like i'm changin tires & hopefully upgrade to 18's. I have the stock Potenza RE-92's. didnt lke em at first, especially in the rain, but grew to accept them. Wish those excellent Aquatreds came in my size. Whats everyone else running with. Recommend 17" and 18" tire sizes?

YEah, I've had 2 10s, 2 15s and a 45 pound 12 in a triple baffle box...and no air leaks. I'm pretty sure they are unrelated.

How much are you looking to spend? For $180-200/tire, you could get the Michelin Pilots that kick ass (stock for a G35) but again, that's $180-200/tire. If you're more on the thrifty side and just lookin' to get by, take a look at a set of Kumho Ecstas for $100/tire. BTW, I'm quoting prices for 225/50/17 tires.

Nah, just bought a set for my Max and that's the size I'm runnin. Tirerack.com is a great place to find tires. And by the way, moving up to 18s may cause your Max to accelerate more slowly due to the added weight and inertia.

For some reason, I don't see exceptional acceleration over other cars. My car feels like a fat boy in a 200 meter race. I'm gonna go with the y-pipe upgrade and maybe sell my 12" subs for 10's, if anyone's interested. I need a diet. I'm postin again for advice on weight loss.

Check your knock sensor as it may be dead. It won't throw a CEL/SES light if the sensor needs replacing but manually checking the ECU for codes will bring it to surface.
