Air duct for the SMIC

Hey fellas whats up? I am now in the process of cleaning my SMIC and man was it a biotch to get off....Anyway, i noticed that it has this air duct plastic black piece that points toward the front bumer...I really dont see any point in having it there because there is that black piece by the fog lights that covers the hole.... my question is....should i not put it back on there when i reinstall it or should i keep it on there? Does it really do anything?

Re: Air duct for the SMIC

I'd remove the fog light, it blocks the I/C, not sure what plastic piece you're talking about, but I would also cut some better holes in the wheel well shield, those louvers don't let much air through.

Re: Air duct for the SMIC

there is a plastic air duct piece that goes up against the stock SMIC. IT seems like it pushes air to the IC, but there really isnt anywhere the air duct is getting air from.

Re: Air duct for the SMIC

THAT plastic cover is the devil!. my 99gst too had that on the stock bumper. it blocks incoming air to the IC. so leave that off if you can. the new kit i put on has a much bigger air duct on the front bumper, sucking in more air.

Re: Air duct for the SMIC

Mine directs air from a hole in the bumper straight through the SMIC... they are there for a reason.

Re: Air duct for the SMIC

Here is my assumption 95-96 runs to the hole. 97-99 runs to the hole but is blocked off by the plastic there.

Re: Air duct for the SMIC

If the tube runs to the plastic and it is only blocked by the plastic air dam thing.. That comes out easily there are 3-4 clips on the back and it pops right out. And the bumper looks better IMO
