96 sunfire engine swap
Hi Im new to this but I thought maybe you guys could help. Recently my 96 sunfire with a 2.4l engine went bad (spun a rod). But anyways I have looked high and low for a used engine for a 2.4 and have come up with nothing I was wondering what all would have to be changed if I put a 2.2 in it i found a really sweet deal on a 2000 wrecked sunfire and can get the whole car at a 1/3 of the price of what they are asking for 2.4 engines with up to 100,000 miles on them so if anyone could tell me what all would have to be done it would be appreciated
thankx in advance ~firegurl~ |

well...the motor mounts will have to be removed and ones for the 2.2l welded in, then there is the fact that you would have to change out the drivetrain all together because you wouldnt be able to use your tranny simply because the setup and engine is completely different from that of the engine and drivetrain that you have now. also the wiring harness and new computer would have to be put in and numerous other things...but you would be buying all of the things needed to do the swap if you bought that wrecked out fire...but also, it would take so much time and labor that the price would be probably into the couple of thousands of dollars just to have that done.
another option would be to rebuild the motor you have. but the only way that would save money is to do all the labor yourself. but if i were you id shop around more and harder for a wrecked out sunfire w/ a 2.4l that has a manual tranny. i mean hell $2000 for a wrecked out 2.2l auto sunfire is a rip off cause ive found those for $200. any way you do it its gonna cost a lot of money to do but just dropping the same motor in would be a whole lot less.
