Slight vibration when first pressing down on brake pedal.

I have a 2004 LE without ABS. Since the first day I drove it home there has been a slight vibration in the brake pedal when it is first pressed down about an inch. After that everything works fine. I have taken it back to the dealer and they said everything is normal. I was wondering if anyone else out there has felt this vibration and if they where able to get it fixed.

Thanks
Tim

Rotor might be warped. Might need new pads, rotors might be rusted causing bad braking. You never know, there are defects in some cars that are right off the showroom floor.

Your brakes probably aren't broken in yet. Wait until you've driven a while before you pass judgement. Hopefully, you've treated them very gently at first for a few weeks.

I drive the highway mostly. I had it checked out so I'll go until it gets worse or goes away!

I'm pretty sure it's not the rotors. After you press more then that first inch it's smooth as silk and stops fine.

I had a 90 accord that I had to have the rotors turned about every 25000 miles, brake pads lasted past 100000 miles though.

Thanks

My wife's 2003 Camry has the same problem. My co-worker 2003 Camry has it too. It looks like a flaw on this model. My co-worker brought to the dealer but they didn't find anything wrong. The problem is intermitten and only some people pay attention to it. I suspect the master cylinder, not the brake pads. My wife's car is at 15000 miles already.

my 2001 has never stopped like other newer cars that i have driven. I also suspect the master cylinder, but who knows.

Re: Slight vibration when first pressing down on brake pedal.

Whenever you buy a new rotor from the autoparts stores, they usually have a slight warpage from the factory.. cant tell you why, sometimes they do sometimes they dont. I suspect a slight warpage of the rotor. When I was a mechanic (in a past lifetime) if I had to replace the rotors on a brake job, I used to do a slight turn on the brand new rotors to true them up before I re-assembled everything on the brake job to keep squeeks and vibration come backs from happening. After I started doing this I never had a come back from vibration and very rarely would I get a squeeler come back. You would be surprised at how many of the brand new rotors were out of round.. yes, even Toyota rotors bought from the dealer which are the same ones that go on our Camry's.

Seems to me that at lower speeds or lighter pedal pressure as you stated that you dont feel the warpage because it is ever so slight, but upon higher speeds or harder pedal pressure you feel the slight warpage and this is transmitted through the pedal to your foot. Makes sense to me.. I cant immagine that the master would be bad or cause this?? They usually either work or dont work.. either have pressure or bleed down to the floor due to a leak.. or the pedal can go rock hard to press.. they just create the hydrolic pressure to the pads. I have never heard of one causing a vibration.. I tend to not think so, but I guess anything is possible, I would highly suspect the rotor though.

It might be worth the $70 or so to have a good shop turn the rotor, replace the pads with a good quality set and repack the bearings if the dealer wont do anything about it.. or do it yourself if you know how.

I also have an '04 LE without ABS and have felt some vibration, very little, when first applying the brakes. It seems to be going away after 2000 miles but the brakes have always worked well. I've had it back to the dealer and everything checked out OK.
