That's very strange to hear. While i don't have the "Trooper", I do have the Rodeo built about that same time frame. While I've got some rust, not the equivilance of it's age, I don't have nearly the corrosion I've seen even on newer vehicles.

I do live in Denver, CO, where the underbay is exposed to harsh winter chemicals, and this truck sees a lot of water in the summer. But I will say that it's first 4 yrs were spent in Vegas, NV, which may have something to do with the minimal rust on the frame.

When I moved back to Colorado, Isuzu dealership was VERY adament about my inserting the hard plastic frame covers into the holes on the frame. Wondering if yours were ever installed? Mine were just included when I bought the truck, never inserted partly because of desert terrain, I'm sure.

Wondering if you live in the New England states, that area would surely give way to rust on an 8yr old vehicle.

Not New England,,a bit farther east,,3000 miles ,or so,N.W Scotland actually ,similar latitude ,probably similar weather too, maritime as well.
You're probably right about the covers,i never had any,as I bought 2nd hand,I think the problem was well started by the time I came along, most of the rot seems to be coming from the inside,,anyway I should be sorted soon with a replacement chassis,,a fair bit of work but the body and motor are both excellent,,and i've got the friendly local garage on my side, this time it'll be well sealed,,time will tell......

I wouldn't leave it too long,,once it get's a hold it's hard to stop
my problem was caused by water getting inside the chassis, salty
water at that.If you've got plastic plugs in the holes in the chassis
KEEP THEM IN,,if water gets inside the sucker,,its bad news
