ls vtec ? about ecu
I am about to put my ls vtec together. I have an 92 integra ls block, a B16A1 head. Some b18c type-r high comp pistins, A high volume B18c type-r oil pump, b16 waterpump, b16 distributer, and a turbo kit for a b16a. Can i upgrade my ecu for the turbo and put a msd rpm switch or is there somthing easyer or better.
Any help? |

LMAO so you have High Compression Pistons and a Turbo kit?
You like watching motors blow up? |

Not a good combo?

ls vtec with itr pistons is like a 12 cr, which is too high to turbo, unless you tune it really good.
you should leave it with the stock ls pistons, and just boost it you can run any type of ecu, but i would recommend hondata or uberdata. if i were you i would choose one high comp pistons or turbo. even if you dont go anything to it you should still have it tuned because theres no ecu that has the mapping for a ls vtec you might end up losing power if you run a stock ecu |

oh man...why do people mod cars when they dont do the research first...
LOW compression = Boost High Compression = NA you cant boost a high compression motor on a street car. I would also not reccomend turboing a stock bottom end LS VTEC. It is not going to give you very reliable results. I would get a B18B complete swap and Boost that if I were you because it doesnt look like you are headed toward a successfull direction here. |

Re: ls vtec ? about ecu
Ok this thread looks just about finished so instead of starting a new one I'll just jack it...I want to go LS/VTEC just because I can get the b18b block for 200 dollars (I would rather go B20/VTEC)
I was just wondering if its reliable if I get the Ls block and put my b16a pistons in it and what exactly would cause any malfunctions because I've heard of people over revving Ls/Vtec motors as if they were B16a's and hurting the block or pistons...

The LS Crank is reall yonly designed to go to like 7k rpms. If you rev it to 8k like a B16 there is a good chance it wont hold up. I dont think you can use the Si pistsons. I think the bore is too small.
Most people reccomend that you buy ARP rod bolts to help with the revving but in all honesty you need to take it to a machine shop and let them balance everything. If you are going to be getting pistsons its a good idea to do a hone anyway so while its at the machine shop you might as well balance the rotating assembly to prevent any damage from revving that high. I would reccomend getting Eagle Rods because they come with arp rod bolts. My opinion is if you are going to do an LS VTEC save up the money and build it right. Dont half ass it or it wont last. |

If you're taking the LS block to a machine shop and replacing the pistons anyway, you may as well bore and reseleve it to get 2 liters, but it'd be much stronger than either a stock B20 or B18...

Yes because Resleeving is so cheap and so needed in an LS VTEC. You can make TONS of power without resleeving.

My point was that if he's serious about making big power numbers, why not go all out? Why not save up and do it right the first time. While your at the machine shop you could have them do some work to the head too.

you dont need to resleeve its pointless for an NA LS VTEC. Its stupid. The sleeves are plenty strong for NA.
