Talking This quote sums up the new domestic sport compacts good!

I just got my March issue of Sport Compact Car and read the following in the Technobabble column entitiled "Inside the Geek Mind" by Dave Coleman:
"-THE GEEK MIND GETS ANGRY-
Being constantly burdened with such wasteful and complex thought processes, the geek mind is easily agitated and prone to bouts of rage when properly provoked. Lets look at what happens when the geek sees a Pontiac at the SEMA show. The Pontiac is really a Toyota, but that just amuses the geek mind; what enrages it is far more complex. The Pontiac is a Vibe (twin to Toyota's Matrix) decorated in a fascinating Detroit interpretation od modern import garb. GM is trying to send a message; Gm wants us to think it has it's corporate finger on the pulse of the Modern performance market. The Geek mind gets the message all right; the message is, GM still has its head so far up its corporte ass it still doesn't know what the import performance market actually is.
The Geek Mind figures this out simply by reading the three letters on the side of the car. "GT-R".
Is Detroit an island? Do these people know there's a world outside their drab, fluorencent corporate prison? Do they have any idea what GT-R means? In the modern performance world, the Skyline GT-R is a performnace icon without parallel. It is respected, no, worshiped by the same crowd that Pontiac thinks they're going to impress. How impressed would Detroit be if Mitsubishi tried to sell them a sports car called a GTO? Pontiac lovers would flow from their trailer parks, baseball bats in hand, until the last one had been destroyed.
But Mitsubishi was too smart for that. It had a sports car called the GTO in Japan, but the company opened its eyes. Its executives traveled and read books. They observed the world beyond their cubicles walls and saw that 'Murricans revered the Pontiac GTO. They renamed the GTO the 3000GT VR4, and even disguised some as the Dodge Stealth.
Had Pontiac done its research, it would know the Skyline GT-R has been an icon almost as long as the GTO has. It would know modern performance doesn't mean body kits and wheel, it means horsepower, just like it always has. Anybody who looks past the laughably insulting GT-R badge will notice tat Pontiac did virtually nothing to increase power on its Vibe.
Lesson learned? Never isult a geek."

Well I read this and thought that most of us feel the same way as the "geek".

Oh and just another quote that had me rollin' on the floor, its from the "Grandma Test" in the Ultimate Street Car Challenge about the Skyline and the Type R 'Teg : " Of great mystery to the blue hair was the Skyline, whose driver orientation, she decided was a dirty trick to confuse hard-working Americans. Our darling of the Social Security system recognized the Type R badge from the mant Type R Accords, Escorts, and Civics she sees around town, and plans on ordering her next Crown Vic so equipped.":hehehe:

I really dont care what the manufacturers call their cars. So what that they called it the same as the GT-R. Considering that people put badging on their cars that it never had, what difference does it make? Anyone who wants or can afford a GT-R will get one be it a Nissan or a Pontiac. Perhaps the author of this post has little respect for GM. Saying GTO lovers "flowing from their trailer parks" indicates the source of this article is a moron and is another of the Skylines drooling monkeys.

Heaven forbid that someone talk disparagingly about the Skyline. Well, I am not impressed.

I do like GM, i don't like what they are trying to do with this thing. They are trying to get in on something to make some money, they are just copying and not being innovative. I would be first in line to prasie the Vibe if they gave it some balls under the hood and took off the GT-R badge. And please dont bitch at me for what the article says, I didnt write it. I agree with the underlying point (as I think most would), I may have worded it different had i wrote it, but I thought I should present the entire article, not butcher it.

i agree with the article to an extent....

what he is saying is that he is fearing the probe type r's, and escort gt r's, and other cars like that...
think about it... it just sounds bad to call it a gt r.

the article isnt from some skyline lover, its just from a guy who thought some stuff out...
and i agree about the gto thing... but then there was the ferrari gto that was run against the gto when it came out, and no one killed anyone...

but i think what he was saying is that it is just a continuation of the domestic kids running around w/ type r badges, and some japanese lettering on an escort... that scares me...

I am certainly not bitching at you at all. I was taking issue with the author of the article.
