Pop's Muscle car

Custom 1971 Chevelle "Heavy Chevy"

Well guys, sorry haven't posted progress in a while, but I've been doing a lot of investigating trying to find all these miscellaneous parts for my version of my dad's show/drive on special occasions car. He bought it many many years ago and he put it back together . And since my dad is my hero, I wanted to make him a model that he can display when he goes to shows.

The base kit is pretty much the 72 amt with mods as the 71 kit is about $100 (b.t.w. the typical amt quality, nothing fits and just about everything needs some modifying to make it look descent). I also chopped a 70 revell for some pieces that the 72 doesn't have.

changes i've made to make it like my dad's:

exterior-
-vinyl top from modelcargarage.com (very easy to work with)
-pe upgrade set from modelcargarage.com
-cut out chrome plated grill to fit in the pe one.
-shaved all ss badging as (unfortunately) his is not ss
-using rims from buick riviera kit (thanks for the help finding these guys)
-custom liscense plates using testors decal paper and the illinois dmv website ; )
-custom dual exhaust

interior-
-pe upgrade parts
shaved off all ss type speedometer/gauges and replaced with more accurate version using many different decals from various kits spliced together and putty
-added tiny custom gauges above heat/ac control
-switched center console shifter from the 72 gun handle type to the 71 type (looks like a small letter "n")
-added styrene arm rest on both doors
-flocking
-seat belts

engine-probably the least accurate
-fan cover from the 70 kit
-customized '70 air filter
-wired distributor
-switched side the alternator was on
-custom alternator bracket
-braided hoses

and finally some pics...sorry so long, but I'm quite excited about this build.

p.s. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME DESIGN THE SIDE STRIPES!

Re: Pop's Muscle car

Very nice looking so far. The detail work is great - save for the distributor, which has wires coming from some mystery spot behind it it. Otherwise, this thing is spot on. The roof is great, as is the air cleaner. Great work - I hope you get the decals to finish this thing!

Re: Pop's Muscle car

Thats one fine build,
Have you tried locating the Decals from the Heavy Chevy isuue? I am not sure how accurate they are but it might be easier to use them.

I didn't even think to look in Keiths albums Tonio, good suggestion

I can tell you Keiths stuff is top notch, I ordered some decals for the Monagram 65 Mustang and they are incredible, the scripts and badges are even chrome like.
Almost forgot Keith Marks can be contacted at [email protected]
