stalled while driving

97 cav auto 2.2l, kept stalling today on the highway, when it stalled the check engine, battery, and oil lights came on. it seemed like it would just die, then it would start revving again a second later, usually during acceleration.

any ideas on what it could be?

I have had the same problem with my 99 cavalier. Does it stall when you low down and stop on the busy highway or when your driving the car just dies?

Have you checked the battery and see if maybe the connectors going to the battery are bad? (I'm a girl and i don't know much so you guys that read this don't make fun )

Right now as it stands my car likes to just start bucking and then dies when i'm at a stop sign idling. I'm getting it looked into. Seems like cavaliers all have the same routine (but annoying) problems.

it worsened until it died. stalled at lights, wherever. turns over now but won't start. had it towed to GM, waiting on a call to hear what's up with it.

my buddy installed my subwoofer last weekend. is it possible that a shitty wiring job might have screwed something up?

Re: stalled while driving

Check the TCC, unplug it and try it again, I had the same problem with my 92 and it was the overdrive sticking and not unlocking it.

Rainfire You should explain what "TCC" means to people like me that don't know anything about cars

This reply I got from a guy on a different board regarding my car bucking and then dying all the time like yours. This is what he said. I don't know if its' correct but maybe it can help?

"You may have gotten condensation in your fuel. Check your plug wires and spark plugs. Cleaning the plugs wouldn't be a bad idea either."

Hope that helps?

Re: stalled while driving

Sorry, the TCC is the transmisson clutch control, it locks the overdrive, if it doesn't unlock then it can cause it to stall.

Mine was an easy fix to unplug it, pulled up the air filter housing and unplugged the wire.

Although if your car doesn't start at all now, I'm not sure if that would be the problem
