FIPK gains?

My car came with a K&N replacement filter (goes in the exsisting box, not FIPK), How much of a gain does the replacement filter give me and is it worth while upgrading to the full FIPK? Remember I only have an SL so thats a scant 222 bhp.

Re: FIPK gains?

Umm...I dunno but I don't think you'll get any gains if it's just a replacement filter that goes straight into the box. I could be wrong though.... And umm....222 aint that bad is it? Hehe But yeah, 320 would be VERY nice!

It looks cool and it could give you a few more horsepower.

Re: FIPK gains?

Maybe 3-5 at the crank, and a cool noise under the hood

How about those matrix filters from 3sx? are those any good. I dont see why the k&N is better. I was under the impression that all open element filter gave the same performance.

Re: FIPK gains?

Yogs and Igovert500, you guys are referring to the FIPK right, not the replacement filter that goes straight into the box?

Re: FIPK gains?

the fipk gave me a very noticable gain, it also drastically changed the sound of my exhaust, made it alot throatier, the gains i experienced i estimate at about 10-15 hp just my two cents.

Judging by your name, I'm assuming you have a '95 SL. Hmm...can you really gain 10-15 hp from just a FIPK? Or do you have other mods added on such that when you added the FIPK, you got that many gains? Also, how do people know how much hp is increased by a modification without getting it dynoed?

A: most filters are about the same as far as performance gains. The bigger the better, but the basic difference is quality. K&N has researched their stuff, the make hte best as far as performance and good filtration go together. There are some that may even offer more performance gains than K&N, but then you have to consider how good is the filtration? Also many filters are not CARB certified(only a big deal if you are in Cali...I think) but they come with a sticker to put on the intake so for emissions, they know that it is legal. Many imitations have not done the research and development and all that stuff to make theirs carb certified, so essentially you get what you pay for.
