Hello all-I just bought from a friend a 97 Maxima-Totally mint condition low miles.. We notice a Groaning sound when we back out of the driveway and sometimes when driving a short distance.. I took the rear wheels off--and the pads were thick New looking-The rotors looked ok also--I used a little sandpaper to clean the pads up a bit then i noticed the sound was gone-but came back after 100 miles.. The brake cables work find nothing at all sticking... My question is--Could there be cheap low grade pads on the car? Will changing the rotors and pads from nissan fix this noise problem? Can i use ceramic pads? Thanks soooo much for any help! Have a great night all!

I had a similar problem with my 97 max. Right after I bought it. I took it back to the dealer and said they'll take care of it. It turned out to be one of the rear calipers weren't releasing all the time after letting the foot off the brake. They replaced the caliper and the pads ($203). I paid nothing thank God!
