speakers in dash

Does anyone know how to replace the front speakers in a 1995 Transport? Does the dash have to be removed or is there a different way to get at them.. I want to upgrade the speakers but cannot figure out how to get at them. If the dash has to come out-How big a job is it? Thanks for any help you can give me

Yes you have to remove the top of the dash, but it is an easy task. I could do it in a few minutes (transport '93 is similar). You must remove the switch assemblies for lights and wipers (one screw below then pull switch assemblies - there is a clip holder at top so be convincing - and disconnect wire bundles) then you see several screws behind the switch wells and at the base of the dash cover and near the doors - one from inside the glove compartment. Then raise it up a little at the near end and pull gently. When putting it back in place, make sure the tabs at the far end engage properly. However the speaker wells will not accept something much bigger than what you have from GM - which, I agree - is pretty cheap.
