I currently own a '94 Jeep Cherokee Sport. It has around 142000 miles. This is my first car which I have had for going on 3 years. I love it cuz she is really dependable (after replacing the OEM raditior).
My current problem involves the A/C. The problem is it is blowing cold air, but she is not blowing it through the main vents. Its coming out nice and cool on the very top vents (where the defroster operates) but is not blowing through the main vents. This has been going on for some time. I replaced the blower fan some time ago b/c it was making all these noises, but I can not recall if this problem started after that happen. I was thinking it the problem was the display panel where you turn on the A/C and Vent and Heat etc. Do the ducts close and open via a switch/lever found on this panel. I have never opened the ducts b/c I did not want to break the seal Any help will be much appricated. I am heading for school next month in Texas, so I need that A/C in top shape to combat that heat. |

Re: She does not blow...
I'm not sure if it is like the grand cherokee or not. but if it is -
Look for a vacuum hose off at the intake manifold on the passenger side or a disconnect from there to the fire wall above the valve cover on the fire wall. Engine vacuum operates the mixing doors in the heater plenum and the default position is the defrost if there is no vacuum. Could also be under the dash too. But you don't want to hear that. Otherwise it is cable operated and maybe the cable has come off of the lever at one end. JD |

Re: She does not blow...
MY 00 XJ is Vacuum operated, and when I ripped off my front bumper,my vents did the same thing. There is a small vacuum bubble, just inside the front bumper, on the right side I think. See if your line came off, or you have a leak in the bubble.

Gt Mud, I think your right. A few months ago the battery cracked and the acid spilled all underneath. I also noticed that the vacuum lines leading to that bubble in the bumper were melted away. I have been meaning to replace it, but have not gave it any importance. But tomorrow I will fix it and hopefully have some strong cold air coming out of my vents.
I will keep you all posted. |
