Need help, buying first car! (dont know if this is bad)

I've been looking at a Dodge Spirit ('91) and i started it up the other day and it started fine, no problems. BUt today when i went to testdrive it, i had to throw it into neutral(too start it), and i dont know if it was all the way in park.... Also when i parked it at my friends house for a few min, it was kinda touchy going into park, i've heard alot of people say their kinda touchey on shifting into park/drive ect... and it's not a problem, but i just wanna make sure?....
