Question I have a problem, I loose horspower at high RPM

From the start it accelerates fine, but then I step on gas the RPM goes up 4000 & 5000 with no "kick" to it, there is no misfires it just not picking up like it used to. Also SES light is on. I had this for 3 days know. Does anybody know what it is ?

I have the following Mod's:
ColdAir kit, ECU chip
Camaro 97 RS, 3.8l

BINGO!!!! a bad cat will act like a cork in the exhaust system, and will create more backpressure the higher the engine speed, and choke the engine, so you wont have any power.

Re: I have a problem, I loose horspower at high RPM

Couple months ago then catalytic went bad, I talked to couple mechanics they gave me some crazy prices, one wanted $900 and another wanted $1200 to put a new one. But one of them told me that without a catalytic the car will run better, it just won't pass the inspection. So I guess he lied right?

Re: I have a problem, I loose horspower at high RPM

no no, he didnt lie, he was talking about cutting the cat out completely, and just running strait pipe, a failing cat is a really bad obstruction.

as far as the prices, that does sound a bit high, the cats are expencive though, like 3-400 bucks, and hourly rates to install are usually the killer. but im sure you could find it cheaper.

Lightbulb Re: I have a problem, I loose horspower at high RPM

I've been searching for catalytics on the web, and I found this cleaner, sounds like BS. What do you think

CATALYTIC CONVERTER CLEANER/DEODORIZER
Breaks up clogs to help restore fuel efficiency and horsepower prolongs life of converter and helps prevent "rotten egg" smell Cleans while you driveпїЅsafely and easily For all catalytic converters Simply pour into carburetor or gas tank. Immediately begins to clean combustion chamber oxygen sensor and EGR valve. Use of this cleaner/deodorizer may help you pass emissions control test. Package contains two 16-oz. cans.
$9.95

The problem is that it comes in one piece, and since I don't have a welding machine it's not going to work out.
