Here is what I'm asking:
1)Does the factory cd/cassete radio have pre-amp outputs? 2)If it doesn't, how should I connect it to the amp? 3)How to I remove the factory radio? 4)Where is the firewall located? 5)What is the best way to run the wires from the radio to the back of the car? |

Re: How to remove factory radio and install amp in 97' runner
here's my 2 cents on questions.
1. No it does not 2.You have to get a low evel line converter 3. You are better off taking to best buy or?? and they wil charge a minimal fee to pull it, if you don't know how to . 4. Firewall is the sheetmetal between you and the engine. 5. underneath the door sill. There is a plastic runner that has a few screws in it that are easy to take out. All your wiring is basically run thru there. Make sure you run the RCA cables on the opposite side of your power cables as the power cables will generate noise into the amp. Hope this helps. But if I were you I would just take it to Best Buy, Good Guys etc because if don't know what you are doing you might really mess something up like drilling the screws into the wires when you put the plastic back on ..... Might be cheaper in the long run and you alsways have the option of screamin at the installer if it's not right. |

It's not that bad. If you can follow the directions that come with the amp ( and headunit, if you get one, which I would suggest to make the amp installation easier) then you can do it. Like Buki said, run the wires along the floor, next to the doors, but run the power wires separate from the rca cables.
-To take off the factory radio, just wedge a flat head screwdriver between the plastic cover that is around the shifter and the plastic cover that emergency brake is over (the place where you put change and other crap), should be black. -After that is off, take off all of the knobs from the air coinditioning, and you can pop off the air conditioning cover also with the screwdriver. - Pull, from the bottom, the center piece slowly. There will be some things you need to disconnect (hazard light, clock, air conditioning, ash tray light, and cigarette lighter connections). -Everything else is easy to see. You will see 4 screws that hold the factory radio in place. |
