Thumbs up Transmission

new times roman 4
Hello,
I've always had a manual transmission until 2002 and I bought my first automatic, a 2002 GMC Sierra, 350 engine and transmission. Well I need to change my transmission fluid and have no idea where to look for drain plug, how many quarts it will take, and any other information you may have. Thanks for any and all information recieved.

Re: Transmission

Hello , not sure about your exact trans. but mine is a 4l80e and i just serviced mine, on most transmissions there is no drain plug, you just loosen the pan bolts, "more on one corner than the rest" and drain it that way, its a slow and/or messy process, once i had my pan out though B&M makes a niffty drain plug for a trans pan, just had to drill a half inch hole and install it, there's even a place on the trans pan where you can see there should have been a drain plug, sort of a flat area that dips below the reg. bottom pan height. its not like you have to change the trans fluid as often as your oil, but the drain is nice for the next time I do have to service it. as for fluid amount, bone dry "converter emptied mine takes 12 quart's, I just performed the regular service, "change the filter and drain whatever was in the bottom of the trans" and it took 6 quart's to refill. again my trans is the 4l80e and yours may differ, but only slightly.
hope this helps

Re: Transmission

Fuzzypuppy,
Hey thanks for the information, and I went ahead and took your suggestion and installed the B&M drain plug. Have a great day or what's left of one.
