Post 97 GP Brake noise?

Here's the thing. On my 97 GP, when I apply the brakes (long slow stops), sometimes I'll hear a loud "clicking" sound that seems to be coming from the left front wheel or under the dash. When this happens, the brakes feel as if they disengage for a second and it feels like the ABS is trying to kick in. The "low trac" light and/or ABS light
will come on also. The car stops fine otherwise and the brake rotors and pads look good. Any suggestions on what may be causing this?

P.S.
I just wanted to thank the forum for helping me diagnose and fix the blower motor resistor problem
I had a few months back.

I have recently been having the same type of problem with my 94 GP it feels as though the ABS is trying to kick on but nothing appears to be wrong with the brakes! Please does anyone have any idea?

Re: Brake noise?

maybe bad wheel sensors leading to a mis communication between the pcm and ebcm causing the tcs to turn on? check the brake fluid lately?

Re: Brake noise?

pcm (power control module) the "brains" of the car located in the airbox and the ebcm (electronic brake control module) the commander of the braking action, located on near the driver side under the hood same location for brake fluid.

while braking if there is a slippage presented your car will enter abs mode. during this mode the wheel speed sensors (wss) will send a signal to the ebcm that will calculate the wheel speed and then request the torqure from the pcm. based on that signal the ebcm will enable tcs and will use the hydraulic pressure in each wheel's individual brake line to either increase, decrease or hold the pressure. when you say "the brakes feel as if they disengage for a second" you might be feeling the pulsations from the changing of the solenoid valves as they adjust according the the ebcm to prevent the slip. the clicking sound is the cycles of the solenoid valves located inside the bpmv. the pulsating and clicking is said to be normal while in abs. abs kicks in when there is a large amount of force applied to the brakes that causes a slip.

Re: Brake noise?

your sure the rotors arnt worped, that'll make the brakes fell like theyre pulsating a little bit, but i donno bout that for "portz97", tht would not make the clicking noise, and shouldnt cause the abs or low traction light to go on so...might not b ur problem, but for er5143, unless u just neglected to mention those things, id check the rotors. If it is the problem it shouldnt be too expensive to fix. You'll have to replace the brake pads along with the rotors, because worped rotors cause the pads to wear unevenly, prolly cost around 400 if u take it to a mechanic, but im not totaly sure bout that price

Re: Brake noise?

Thanks for the explanation on "pcm" and "ebcm" . Now I know what to look for at least. My problem still persists so if I can't figure it out by more research then I guess it's off to the dealer I go. Thanks again.
