Exclamation all idiot lights stay on

97 Grand Am. I'm exprrencing a weird problem. I was out doing some shoping at a few different places. The first few places I stopped at , when I got back in the car it would stall imediatley after the first start and stay running after the second. The last place I stopped, the car would turn over but not start (like it was'nt getting fuel). It finally started after about 20 tries but when I would give it gas (in park) the engine would surge. Then I noticed every time it would surge all the idiot lights and tach would come on and off in sync with the surging. I put the car in gear and made it home. The car stopped surging with the car in gear but the lights and tach kept freaking. By the time I got home the lights just stayed on steady and the tach pegged at 0. The car seems to start OK now but I still have the light and tach problem. I tried disconnecting the battery hoping maby if it was a computer problem that it might reset itself, but no luck.
I read a post about someone having the exact problem I am having. They said they found a lose ground wire on the ECM (I'm assuming thats the computer). Does anyone know where the computer is located at, and if its behind the dash how best to access it?

Re: all idiot lights stay on

The ECM is located behind the passenger side kick panel and is accessible after removing the passenger side sound insulator panel (located beneath the glove box).
