ABS Light on 2000 XLT V8

My ABS light went on after a very fast brake decline, squeak for about an hour followed by grinding and then the ABS light came on. Manual says that the ABS feature is not active, but the brakes are still working. I am replacing the brakes myself, when I replace the brakes will the ABS begin to start up again, will I have to do something to restart the ABS system, or do I have to get them serviced by a dealer or mechanic?

Did you ever resolve this problem, my light is on also and before taking it in, i would like to know what others know.

it could mean that you need to rplace it mine is on to and i took my car to get looked at and they told me that the abs sensor went bad......the part only cost about 10 to 15 dollars

most likely is one of your sensors has gone bad since you heard noises before the abs light turns on.

I had same problem with my 99 explorer V8. The local shop wants $90 just for a dynastic test(YA Right!!) I did a search in a different form http://www.explorerforum.com found that most people with ABS light problem ends up with a bad sensor and it’s the on the back (there are total of 3 ABS sensors 2 in front and on in the back. The back one is the easiest to replace only one screw need to removed and the sensor can be pull out) The part cost me $30 from the dealer and it’s a less then 5 min job to do it.
SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!! Do it your self.
