Front Wipers 98 Jimmy

I have a 98 Jimmy with the wiper motor circuit board thing. My question is would the circuit board fix the problem. wipers don't work in rain sometimes not when dry, intermitent does not work, so on so on. But the mist always works or the washer wipe mode always works. Also Some one(previous owner) put a jumper wire across two of the little screws that hold the circuit board cover on. If i take that wire off nothing works.
Anybody tell me what that wire is for? For some strange reason the recall on the circuit boards does not cover 98 jimmy even though i been told that it is the exact part # and rev# of the recalled years.

Thanks for any help.

A new circuit board should solve your problem.

The little wire is acting as a ground circuit. When the circuit board goes bad that is one of the circuits that is affected, and sometimes can be fixed by just adding a ground.

Hope this helps.

I have a 96 and there was a recall years after I replaced the wiper motor. I had it fixed but they reimbursed me since I kept the receipt. Mine was doing the exact same thing.

You can remove the circuit board and fix it yourself with a soldering iron. All you do is heat up the solder where the connector meets the circuit board. The five solder joints are circled in this picture: http://www.mhtc.net/~jbomkamp/wiper.jpg

Jeremy, WOW! thanks for your post. i removed the module, used a magnifying glass to see 4 cracked soldering joints as shown in your photo, re-soldered the joints and voila, good as new. Shame on GM for not including these vehicles in their recall, Shame on the government for not forcing them to. I had contacted both. It is a very serious danger to many GMC owners.
It would have been a big expense for a very easy small fix.
Thanks for taking the time to post the photo.

It's part of the wiper motor, behind a black cover held on by 3 or 4 screws. I don't know about the radio thing.
