Hey, I am lookin at a '91 T-bird, V6, 60,000 mi, auto, $1,300. As far as I know nothing major is wrong with it, just a few dings and a little tear in the drivers seat. I wanted to know if it would be worth it for me (16 turning 17 in a month) to get the T-bird. Will it last? Any common problems I should kno about to look for when I check out the car?

Re: '91 t-bird
Well it's a very low mileage 91. But a 91 V6 isn't much to scoff at. If you just want a daily driver, then the $1300 will be well worth it. If you want something with a little get up and go to it, look for a V8. If you have deep pockets, look for a Super Coupe.

Re: '91 t-bird
Orangemadman, listen, take my advice. Hopefully this is some kind of used car dealer/that can give you like a 30 day warranty. Cause just cause it has low miles and is old, don't mean it ain't a lemon. Several months ago, i bought a 90 chevy lumina eurosport, it had only 46,000 miles. It was aparently an "old mans" car hence the low mileage. After 1 week, it was stalling like mad. This was after i put a kn air filter, changed oil and had a complete tranny flush(dumb on my part). Turned out, it had not only a bad fuel filter, but all the fuel lines where all messed up, and to fix it all would have been over $500. Then, i took it back, said "lemon law", demanded my money back, then the guy asked if i wanted another car. I said i wanted something sporty, so he brought by this 95 v8 tbird, which was awesome, and i NOW OWN THANK GOD. Tbirds rock, but just make sure you have some kind of agreement with them. BTW, honestly, you don't want a V6 in a heavy bird. Everytime you see another bird, with the 2 muffler's, you'll want a V8, look around, get a V8. Lots of money wasted on gas, but overall much better. V8's are actually safe, on the highway, a number of times i had to gun it to get out of the way, and the bigger engines have great 45-80 acceleration.
PS.. I'm not downing the V6 engines, i just prefer a bigger engine for a heavy car. If everything turns out well, that the car is a-ok, you got a hell of a deal bud, good luck. |

Re: '91 t-bird
Sorry, forgot to mention, ONLY BUY A CAR YOU WANT. Don't buy some POS thats "a good deal". Believe me, cause you wanna be happy with what you drive, i know this cause of personal experiance. I drove a 92 ford escort (fed ex box on wheels) for almost 2 years. Great car, but damn is it ugly.

Re: '91 t-bird
With the exception of headgaskets, reliable as hell. If they have been replaced, you should have no problem. If they haven't been, a good flush and fill with anti corrosive additives added yearly should help keep the gaskets intact. Otherwise, have $1200 handy for someone else to replace them or $200 for a top end kit and do it yourself over a weekend.

Re: '91 t-bird
If the car turns out to be good, you got yourself a winner. Check the hell out of it also. Get on your back, check the rear end to the motor on both sides. Look for any leaks/smudge's(leaks that where wiped) and especially bends or anything that would indicate an accident. Oh yeah, one other thing, if you take it on a test drive, floor it, just to make sure it doesn't hesitate. Put it in reverse, floor it, be careful though alright.
When i test drove my thunderbird, i made sure it was in check "at the time", so make sure of these things. I love the body's on them also, very aero dynamic. |

I bought the bird. Great condition, my uncle jacked it up and checked the wheels, brakes, suspension, and ball joints. Two little dents in the LF fender, and a small rip in the seat, no big deal. It was garage kept, its very very clean, looked brand new. You can wipe your hand on the engine ant not have any grease, dust, etc. an it. It has a car phone too, though i dont theink ill use it cuz i got my cell. Everything works, definatly NOT a lemon, no throttle hesitation. Just needs brake pads changed in the front. The brakes are very stong in it, i was suprised when i hit them that they were so strong.
Thanks guys, i feel i got a great deal and a car that should last me at least until i start college even till i graduate... |

solaris=amazing ,
You screamed Lemon law on a '90 van? I don't know where your from,but in Florida lemon law doesn't even apply to used cars little lone ones that are 14 yrs old! Dealer fell for that must not have a clue.Cars that are sold here are sold as is unless they are certified used. Dude did you ever drive an SC before? My car has no problem getting out the way or merging with traffic. In case you don't know SC's are quicker than stock '8's in a Bird. Get a clue before you give wrong info.
