Lightbulb VR4 custom cutout setup?

I saw this on another forum and it sounded pretty cool:

Quote:
do like the old 3000GT VR4s... they had a sport mode that basically had exhaust going into a switchable Y... like a cutout and you can choose either going through a "touring" muffler on one side or a "sport" muffler on the other. So you could fab. up a flange to a cutout at... put this at the Y and do stock muffler on one side and aftermarket on the other.... or just straight pipe back to the tip if you would like. It would still retain the looks of the "dual"(not really) system but would only be using one side at a time.
Do any of you have setups like this? Any pics?

TIA

All VR-4s had the sport and touring mode system. but as for how it works I'm not sure. but yes you could do it. there is even a already existing electronically controlled system avilable on the market.

vr-4s came with active exhaust in which they can change whether or not their exhaust is quiet or loud, personally, its just another way to add weight, thanks mitsubishi

Re: VR4 custom cutout setup?

That wont net you much in savings, they only weight like 15lbs.
If you are concerned with weight and have some cash, look into replacing your rims. There are a few sets that weigh under 20lbs each. Also switch in racing seats for the front two. You could gut your trunk and backseats, but there isn't much weight there to begin with. You could also replace your battery with a lightweight racing trunk battery, this will open up some space under the hood and help even out the weight from front to back. If you really have a grand lying around, CF hood and drive shaft are also nice upgrades.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
