Calculate Engine Hours

I am thinking of purchasing an M3 and the dealer has talked about engine hours on the vehicle. I want to know the equation for calculating the amount of hours an engine has been used? Also - is it possible for this value to be deleted from the on board computer?

Thanks,

Bill

Sounds like he's been around boats too long. Car engine life expectancy, as well as general usage, is measured in miles or kilometers, not hours. The reason boats use hours instead of anything else is due to the fact it's impossible to easily or accurately track how much distance has been covered by the boat with the engine running.
