i have a question about a 400 engine

in 1977 the trans am had a 6.6 liter engine. now is that a 400 or a 455?
my dad says its a 455. but i thought the 455 was a 7.2 liter. some one help me prove him wrong.

Re: i have a question about a 400 engine

6.6L is a 403 pontiac block I do believe. I think its different from the chevy 400 small block but I am not positive. ITs definately not a 455 though.

The 400 Chevy and 400 Pontiac are diffferent motors. Both have a 4.125in bore and a 3.75in stroke. The 6.6 liter is definetly the Pontiac 400. Just multiply the liters by 61 and you get a rough estimate of the cubic inches. 6.6 x 61 = about 403 cubic inches, not the 455.

6.6 liter's is 402.756711 cubic inch.. which would be a 403.
