Future owner
I've recently decided to finally go after my Skyline. I will finally have the funds and plan on getting one NEXT summer. I've read the "important" posts in the US section about importing and everything and the only question is what is the bond part of the import process (the 450% of cost or whatever). I plan on getting a GTR so my second question is what is the best year and why.

Re: Future owner
The bond part depends on who you go through----
Please do not hail down upon me with rocks!---some RI's cover this themself....MX is the only one I've ever heard of who DOESN'T! In fact, per the RI newsletter distributed by the NHTSA, I believe it is preferred practice FOR them to provide this themself, but I could have read that wrong, or misunderstood the rather plain language in which this was explained to me by various sources.... In any case, the truth is this--- The best year for you to purchase a GTR, IMHO, is a 1995 R33. There are plenty available, they are still in quite excellent condition (not at all impossible to find one below 30000 kilometers), and they are the last year ANY RI can do until OBD2 is overcome..... I think there are a few threads that deal with the OBD2 problem if you have any questions about that..... mB |

oh wow, i didn't even read about that obd2 problem. thats horrible cause i want a 96+. i hope it's solved by the end of the year like one of the posts says. now the bond thing i dont even get what is for. i understand that somoene else may cover...but what is it. i like the 95- but i think the 96+'s body style is so much nicer. i was wondering which year is the best for that body style.

this is the first time ive actively looked into the skylines. i was going but what i read and i thought that the 96+ not being legalized was because of the body style. so i guess what i want then is the r34 99+. havent had anyone say those are the best yet
all r33s so far.

Re: Future owner
A lot of people prefer the look of the R34(my wife included), I prefer the look of the R33, and a lot of people prefer the performance of the R32, so it comes down to individual style ultimately.
You might have some trouble getting an R34 for some time, however--same OBD2 problem. mB |
