86 mr2 Needs HELP!

I was washing insisde the engine compartment with a low pressure setting on my hose and now for some reason my car will not drive. I inspected the sparkplugs just taking the wires off of them and discovered that the compartment was full of water i drained all the water and the engine still idles extremely rough and will not allow me to press the gas at all. It just sputters and dies no matter how much gas i give it. I then took the spark plugs out and notice that one of them was not as hot as the others (im not sure if that really matters) after i cleaned them all it idled a lot longer then eventually sputtered and died. While the it sputters it sounds as if the car is backfiring but im not sure what is going on.
Run down
When i start it it idles very rough around 1k to about 400 rpms for about 30 to 50 seconds then will sputter and die. When you get out and smell the engine it smells like gas. If anyone could help me out that would be wonderful.

I bought new spark plugs, and it still wasnt helping. I gave up and called my friend with a supra to tow me out of the driveway (my driveway is steep as hell and my car was parked in the middle of it) so he came and pulled me out. I noticed a lot of water fell out when i was level. I tried starting it one more time, it started right up, however, it felt as if it had lost a lot of power. I drove it very slowly around my house until it felt as if nothing had happened, and ive had no other problems with it. Thanks for the help though.
