i need advice. gsr vs lsvtec vs b16

i have a problem. i have an 89 crx which i just got my b16 in and running, and its fast but i feel like it could be faster. in my garage i have some parts and i'd like to get you guys' advice. i have a 91 b18a complete LS motor, a complete b18a shortblock ready to go ls vtec, i have a brand new, never been put together gsr block. just the bare block as well as the head to go with it. these parts were purchased from a guy locally who opened up the factory sealed box's in front of me. and i also have a complete gsr head, with stripped exhuast manifold studs to use as a donor head for the brand new gsr. i am stuck between a rock and a hard place, b.c i dont know if i want to build up my b16 , build up the gsr motor, or do a combo of the two and go ls vtec. i might end up using the used gsr head and put it on the b18a block and do a ls vtec, just a little project and throw it in, and if something blows i'm not out anything, but i'd really appreciate everyones input. moneys not a huge object to me, but i dont want to spend much over a grand. i dont know if i could get a complete gsr crank, with rods/pistons/all gaskets for this. one thought i had was build the gsr with type r pistons, and then sell the other stuff and get some itr or some other mild cams. can i use the ls crank for the gsr? oh yea, and one last thing. will i be able to use the dizzy off of my 1st gen b16 on the gsr, and can i modify a brand new ls b18a dizzy to work with the gsr, but cutting and and drilling on the mounts for it? sorry this is a thread full of questions but i really respect everyones input. thanks in advance for any replies.

Um why go to all of that work when you have a b16a already in.
WTF sell all of that stuff and you should have somewhere between 1500 and up depending on the condtion of all the parts. With that money you can turbo your b16 and get a shit load more power than the lsvtec. Heck where do you live ill buy the gsr cylinder head and block from you if you dont want it

GSR block with PR3 pistons, and type-R cams. A friend of mine has this setup and it hauls major ass. Use the GSR block, its a lot better than making the LS block work properly.

I want a GSR block baaad.

pr3 pistons?

siz,
you'd build it with just pr3 pistons and type r cams? i wish i could post this pic i have of all my stuff lined up. i cant figure out how to insert it into my post.
i got the gsr block cheap. i'm not too sure why the guy made me such a deal on it, or the head for that matter.

Wow... this sounds like a decent idea. Turbo the B16... OR... you could keep the GSR block, get forged pistons/rings/etc., find a good crank and use the gsr head so you have basically a complete gsr then get rid of the LS stuff and turbo the GSR with the forged pistons. You'd end up with a B18 GSR engine with vtec and if you turboed it, you'd have all the power you could want. And if it blows up, put the B16 back in it. It must be nice to have so many options...haha

Why is he going to turbo the B16 when he has 2 different 1.8L blocks sitting around?!

C'mon guys, don't get so off topic. He asked about LSVTEC, you thinking of the other thread that's LSVTEC vs. turbo.

Ok i'm assuming your goin all motor? Well then YES swap out that torqueless b16 block and slap the gsr on it. Throw in CTR pistons but you goin to have to let the machine shop custom fit them on your stock rods. Believe me its a great set up. Gets you into 13s no problem. I had a c5 shorty but i got rid of my ride cause i'm goin with something faster , newer and ...awd I'll post the pics soon! Anyways dont go ls v-tec. I mean yes they can be reliable but needs some work. So keep the gsr block and build it from scratch.

13's? really>

so let me get this straight> you are saying that my gsr block, if built with nothing more than ctr pistons, which would yield around 12something) compression and my b16 head would run 13's in my gutted crx? which would be a better choice, the gsr head or the b16?

B16 head.
With not many boltons you should easily be able to run 13s with the GSR block. I'd use PR3 B16 pistons, because I'd be afraid of too much compression ratio for pump gas.. I can't always be garanteed to get 93 octane.

Re: i need advice. gsr vs lsvtec vs b16

Yeh i suggested ctr pistons cause you can get them pretty cheap. If you had the mula then i'd suggest to get some stronger pistons but ctr will do just fine. Get some eagle rods. They should cost around under 300. Yes it'll raise the cr and i believe it goes up to 11:8. Anything under 12 ratio can run on pump gas. I know some ppl running 12:1 ratio running on 93 octane and they're running fine.
