Unhappy Major Engine Problems

I have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo with about 172000 miles on it. Recently i was driving on the freeway and heard a loud bang then rapidly lost speed. When i pulled over all the oil from my engine poured out onto the ground. I took it to a mechanic and he said it could be a bad rod, cracked cylinder head or, broken seat of some sort. He cant be sure until he opens the engine up which is pretty pricey. If you have any ideas or suggestions on what it might be or know of a very good, cheap mechanic in Houston, Tx, please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Major Engine Problems

Sorry this happened, but 9 times out of 10, if all your engine oil was on the ground, sounds like you threw a rod through your oil pan, this is an obvious thing. Either way, start looking for another engine. With that many miles on it, it may be better to get a rebuilt engine with a warrenty installed than trying to replace what went in yours.
